Geographical Situation

Physical Structure of Nevşehir

Nevşehir is a large plateau consisting of ash and lava formed by Erciyes Mountain, Hasan Mountain, Güllüdağ and Melendiz Mountains.

Climate: The climate of Nevşehir province is continental climate. The average annual precipitation is around 400 mm and the highest precipitation is generally in May. The monthly average minimum temperature is -3.8 oC in January, and the monthly average highest temperature is 28.5 oC in August.

Vegetation: Nevşehir is a very poor region in terms of forests and is in the last ranks in Turkey. According to the statistics of the General Directorate of Forestry in 2018, the forest existence of Nevşehir in 2018 is 46,000 m3. Apart from this, the vegetation is generally steppe and the amount of green areas is more in the places where Kızılırmak passes.

Nevşehir Mountains

Erdaş Mountain: The height of this mountain, which is the highest point of Nevşehir, is 1,982 m. Özlüce and Çakıllı villages are the closest settlements to this mountain located in the borders of Derinkuyu district.

Hodul Mountain: This mountain, located on the Nevsehir-Kayseri provincial border and very close to Ürgüp Şahin Efendi village, is 1,942 m high and is the second highest mountain of Nevşehir.

Hırkadağ: Its height is 1,683 m and it is close to Gülşehir Dadağı village.

Oylu Mountain: This mountain, which has a height of 1,642 m, is located within the boundaries of Uçhisar town.

Nevşehir Rivers

Kızılırmak: Kızılırmak, which rises from İmranlı district of Sivas province, passes through Avanos and Gülşehir districts in Nevşehir province. There are also Damsa Streamlet and Acıgöl Streamlet in the region and these resources are used in irrigation.

Airline

Cappadocia Airport: Cappadocia Airport is 30 km away from the city center and 10 km away from Gülşehir district center. Transportation is provided by paid passenger service, taxi and car rental. Cappadocia Airport is the gate of these provinces that open to civil air transportation for Nevşehir as well as the surrounding provinces. 

Kayseri Airport: Located 80 km away from Nevşehir, Kayseri Airport is another alternative that tourists use to reach the Cappadocia region.

Highway

The main transportation to Nevşehir province is provided by land. It has an easy road transportation due to the fact that the roads are mainly on flat lands. The total length of the provincial highways is 524 km. With the opening of the Ankara-Niğde highway, it is predicted that the logistics importance of Nevşehir will increase.
